In an inspiring move towards addressing mental health issues among Jamaican youth, Miss Jamaica Festival Queen 2016, Kyesha Randall, has embarked on a visionary project named "Motivate JA." This initiative is designed to create awareness about mental health challenges in high schools across Jamaica, offering support, inspiration, and a platform for open dialogue. The project's launch has been a resounding success, thanks to the collaboration of key sponsors such as Rose Hall Developments Limited, Daregha Studios, Jamaicans Inspired UK, Digicel Foundation, Lasco Financials, Jamaica Tours Limited, Alessandro's Catering Services and the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC).
With the Motivate JA project, Kyesha aims to address a pressing issue that often remains in the shadows: mental health challenges among Jamaican high school students.
Randall's vision is to create a safe and open space where students can discuss their mental health concerns and listen to the stories of those who can offer guidance and support. To make this vision a reality, she has launched a high school tour that brings together a diverse group of artists such as: The Garrison Youths (Dancing Dynamite 2012 winners), young artistes Klariti and Merrit and guest speakers such as Krystal Tomlinson, who can connect with students in a meaningful way.
The Motivate JA High School Tour is not your typical school assembly. Instead, it's an engaging and interactive experience, complete with vibrant performances by talented members of the artistic community and inspirational talks by guest speakers who understand the importance of mental health.
The tour offers a unique opportunity for students to connect with professional artists and speakers who share their personal experiences and offer valuable insights. By breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health issues, Motivate JA encourages young people to reach out for help and support when needed.
With the combined efforts of these sponsors, Motivate JA has the resources to bring its message of hope and support to high schools across the island.
Changing the Narrative
The launch of the Motivate JA High School Tour represents a significant step towards breaking the silence and stigma surrounding mental health in Jamaica. By fostering open conversations, offering support, and showcasing the power of the artistic community, Kyesha Randall and her team are inspiring young minds to believe in themselves and seek help when needed.
As the tour continues to make its way through high schools in Jamaica, it's clear that Motivate JA is not just an initiative; it's a movement that's transforming the lives of the youth and shaping a brighter, mentally healthier future for the country. Through the support of sponsors and the dedication of passionate individuals like Kyesha Randall, the Motivate JA project is proving that change is possible and hope is always within reach.
